Abel softly told Cain that as long as repentance remained, sin would remain.

Joe Biden is an extraordinary man.

Narendra Modi dreams of becoming Hitler.

Racism and ignorant nationalism negate democracy.

The presidency of Joe Biden and the story of Borges

  Hands down

  Rana Mehboob Akhtar

There is a brief account of Borges that Abel and Cain were wandering in a desert after death.  The two met by chance.  They recognized each other.  Both were tall.  They met each other and sat down on the ground.  They lit a fire.  Cooked and sat quietly for a long time.  Like two men sitting quietly at the end of a long and hard day.  A timeless unknown star was shining in the sky.  The fire was burning.  In the light of the fire Cain made a stone mark on Abel's forehead and the morsel he wanted to put in his mouth fell from his hand.  Then he apologized.  "Now I don't remember if you killed me or I killed you?"  Abel replied: "We are both here. As before."

"Now I am convinced that you have forgiven me."  Cain said, "Because forgiving is forgetting. I will try to forget too."

"Yes," Abel replied softly.  "You are right. As long as there is remorse, sin will remain."

Poets, writers and philosophers know the art of forgetting and remembering.  Trump with the memory of the elephant did not know!  They were dragged back by the dead, the shrine and the past.  Life, on the other hand, looks backwards, like January in a calendar.  President Trump was a prisoner of the white imperialist past.  There were "flames" of the extinguishing colonial lamp.  White imperialists dreamed of reviving the past.  The mysterious use of social media and language was odd.  Hitler was searching for the lost paradise of the Aryans.  He made Germany a hell until statesmen like Adnair, Willy Brandt and Merkel reconciled Germany with the world of humanity in philosophy, literature and music.  President Trump wanted to turn America into a white man's paradise.  But America was made hell.  January 6, 2021 was the darkest day in American history.  Proponents of her case have been working to make the actual transcript of this statement available online.  The attackers held Confederate flags.  I remembered the dark night of slavery.  Six people lost their lives on January 6, and some protesters brought bags full of rubbish and spilled dirt on the walls of the US Parliament.  It was a sad day for the American people, saddened by the death of George Floyd and the destruction of Corona.  President Trump was badly exposed.  But the American media and the public showed mature ideology and on January 20, when Biden was sworn in as President of the United States, "everyone" breathed a sigh of relief!

Let's take a look at Biden's life before turning to Borges.  In a column on the US election in November, we wrote, "The new president of the United States, Joe Biden, is an extraordinary man who looks ordinary. He was first elected councilor in 1970. He became a senator in 1973 and in 2007.  He was a senator for about 36 years. In 2009, he was the white vice president of the first African-American president in the United States.  Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and her father, Donald J. Harris, a Jamaican, the first Indian-American, the first African-American, and the first female vice president of the United States, was a historic election in which a 78-year-old man was elected president for the first time.  Have happened! "  It is a bitter truth that the power to deal with the major global problems facing the people of the world lies in global power.  States are focused on protecting vested interests rather than the majority of the people.  Corporate media, social media and the majority of politicians have trivialized the dialogue.  President Trump, Boris Johnson, Hungary's Urban, Turkey's Erdogan, the Philippines' Duarte, India's Narendra Modi and Brazil's Bolsinaro have all introduced and scattered politics.  He comes as the Messiah of the poor and spreads hatred and corruption on God's earth.  The progressive narrative is marginalized.  Surprisingly, the less educated and disenfranchised whites in the United States consider President Trump to be the Messiah and still have him in large numbers.  That the Democratic Party has also become a party of corporate interests and President Trump's victory in 2016 was the logical consequence of the Democratic Party's policies!

According to Noah Harari, our globe (Earth) faces challenges such as nuclear war, environmental disasters, artificial intelligence unemployment and digital capitalism.  The ability and intent of the traditional elite to deal with them is questionable.  Nietzsche spoke of new ethics after Mahabaniya's death.  Then there were two world wars in which the world had no superior moral statement other than occupation and the acquisition of wealth.  Hitler, reddened by the redness on a woman's lips, bathed the world in blood and died himself sobbing in the lap of a woman.  The world today needs a new international ethic.  Open dialogue is needed on religion, socialism, reaction, liberalism and democracy.  Both religion and socialism dream of a better future for human beings.  The difference between the two is that religion seeks blessings in another world and socialism in the same world.  But both sacrifice the individual on the altar of communion. And humanity can sob like George Floyd under the knees of the mighty.  Can die from lack of oxygen.  The smoke of nuclear war can dissolve.  Can become a slave to robots and data companies.  No Messiah will come to save man from digital dictatorships.  Philosophers, intellectuals and statesmen have to do this.  But unless the people force political leaders with the power of enlightened rhetoric, it is futile to dream of change. "

Biden's first presidential speech was somewhat promising.  Among other things, he said, democracy is precious, it is weak.  Politicians lie for power and profit.  These sentences are the essence of his speech.  The edifice of democracy is based on the concepts of freedom, equality and brotherhood, and racism and ignorant nationalism negate the basic democratic concepts.  The imperialist past is the enemy of democracy.  Hitler came democratically but fascism overthrew the world.  Narendra Modi is elected by vote but dreams like Hitler for Muslims.  Trump won the 2016 election but lost the 2020 election and wanted to stay in power!  White racism was encouraged.  Such leaders are captives of the past and sick of humiliation.  Sigmund Freud spoke of revisiting the wounds of the past and changing the past with new interpretations and explanations.  The lesson of the story of Louis Borges, the greatest scholar, writer and storyteller of the twentieth century, is that * as long as repentance remains, sin will remain *.  The white majority in the United States should apologize to African Americans instead of looking back, forgetting to forgive.  A healthy new world cannot come into being without changing the imperialist past.  The UK should apologize to India for colonial looting, the US to Japan for dropping the atomic bomb, the Arabs to Iran for the Gulf War, Israel to the Palestinians and India to the Kashmiris!  Even if Corona or any other environmental disaster, atom bomb or AI did not destroy the human race, it would be even more difficult for man to survive in the ancient paradigm of the farmer Cain and the shepherd Abel!  Democracy needs to be strengthened through forgiveness, not remorse!  The greatest scholar and magical realist of the twentieth century, Louis Borges C, needed wisdom as much as it does now, perhaps never before!  But it is hopeless that:

Some of our wisdom did not work

We have lost the truth from lies
